# Lets talk All the information you should every want to know before you design packaging. # Some important starter information ## Preface This guide is going to focus on two main things. One, what kind of packaging is right for your GB i.e. relative costs? And two, If you so choose, some packaging design basics. One last thing to be noted is I will also briefly cover things like custom pelican cases and some more obscure options in that same realm. #### What Packaging is right for you? First, let's start with who needs packaging in the first place. This section is designed for people who intend on running a group buys (GB) not for people doing one-offs or even private small GBs. Those people can refer to (insert page name here when done). For those planning a GB keep reading. The first step is identifying your target price range for the board and who it's aimed at. Are you making a TKL for the masses or is it a fully copper Orth 40%? If you answered more toward the first answer then you likely going to want to tend towards a more premade option like a carrying case rather than fully custom CNC foam which is where the second option might tend towards (possibly in addition to a carrying case if you want to be super fancy). Why do I say this? because custom foam is super expensive. I got a quote for custom foam and got told it would cost me about 30usd per unit. Without context, that may seem ok but when I asked for a quote for a carrying case I got a price under 10usd. Once again that seems minor for a good unboxing experience but I implore you to take out your TI-84 and do some math. Now that we are on the same page we can talk about MOQ or minimum order quantity. The reason that I say very clearly that if your doing a small GB this page is not for you is because often the MOQ of packaging is high. 250-300 seems to be the average from my experience. Let's be clear that this is not absolute, you can often bargain with your manu to get both better MOQs and prices.
